The Studio

As Analog in the Digital, Matthew Genovese works from his private recording, mixing and mastering studio in Los Angeles, designed by Steven Klein and built around the way he makes records.

The studio brings the entire process under one roof — from songwriting and pre-production through tracking, overdubs, mixing and mastering — allowing a project to develop without moving between different studios, systems or creative environments.

At the center of the studio is a vintage Quad Eight Pacifica console, surrounded by analog outboard equipment, Scully tape machines and a modern digital recording system. Analog and digital are integrated as a single workflow, making it possible to move freely between the two depending on what best serves the record.

Much of the studio’s vintage equipment has been personally restored, rebuilt, modified and maintained by Matthew to his own exacting standards. These pieces aren’t treated as museum objects or used simply for nostalgia — they’ve been carefully brought back to life to remain reliable, working tools in a modern recording environment.

The studio includes a dedicated control room, live room, isolation room and natural chamber, giving performances and sounds their own physical spaces while keeping the entire studio connected as one creative environment.

Monitoring is built around STRAUSS ELEKTROAKUSTIK reference systems, providing the accuracy and resolution required throughout recording, mixing and mastering. The studio also serves as the Los Angeles showroom for STRAUSS ELEKTROAKUSTIK, offering private demonstrations, critical listening and system evaluation by appointment.

Every room, piece of equipment and technical decision exists for the same reason: to let the technology disappear and keep the focus on the music.
